Assalamualaikum & Salam Sejahtera;

Industrial Use Of Silver Forecast To Rise To 665.9 Million Ounces In 2015

28 March 2011, 12:18 p.m.
By Kitco News

(Kitco News) -The amount of silver used for industrial purposes is forecast to rise to 665.9 million troy ounces by 2015, which would be a 36% increase from the 487 million used in 2010, according to a report from the Silver Institute released Monday.

The report, The Future of Silver Industrial Demand, was produced on behalf of the Silver Institute by the precious metals consultancy GFMS Ltd. Industrial use of silver accounts the largest share of annual fabrication demand, the Silver Institute said.

The “base case” forecast from GFMS is predicated on what the consultancy sees as the most likely outcome for the global economy, the consultancy said.

“The report demonstrates how buoyant silver industrial demand is, not only because of the lack of substitution, but also because of the wide range of established and growing new uses that make up industrial demand,” said Michael DiRienzo, executive director of the Silver Institute. “This report maintains that we expect to see robust gains in industrial silver demand over the next five years, further emphasizing silver’s essential role in industry.”

The report identifies 11 still-new applications for silver, ranging from food packaging to radio identification tags to auto catalysts, which collectively could exceed 40 million ounces of industrial demand by 2015, said the Silver Institute.

The report also said that stronger silver industrial demand in the U.S. and Asia will be a key factor driving growth through 2015, with healthy developing-country demand especially in markets such as China and India.

Much of the forecast growth will come from established applications, such as silver’s use in electrical contacts and in the photo-voltaic market, the report said. The “technical proficiency of silver” limits the ability to switch in favor of lower-cost alternatives, making the metal largely price inelastic, the Silver Institute said.

The report recounted steady growth in industrial demand for silver for two decades now, interrupted only briefly by financial-market weakness in 2001 and 2008. Back in 1990, this demand stood at 273 million ounces, meaning it has already grown by 78% to 2010.

“Although it is important not to overlook the contribution from ‘new’ industrial uses of silver, it is also apparent that much of the growth in the global total will be driven by stronger demand for a number of established uses…,” the report said.

In particular, the GFMS report cited “electrical contacts,” such as in automobiles. This use has risen both due to an increasing number of cars around the world, as well as expanding end uses for contacts, from controlling windshield wipers and seat adjustments to managing navigation systems. The report also cited development of the photo voltaic industry, such as solar energy.

PV use of the white metal was developed over two decades ago, but until recently, silver offtake remained slight, the report said.

“The market for PVs then changed dramatically, as growing environmental concerns increasingly focused on generating power from fossil-free sources,” said the report. Such silver offtake soared from around 3 million ounces in 2004 to around 50 million ounces in 2010, said the report. “Further robust growth is also forecast for the PV industry, with silver demand in 2015 expected to more than double the already elevated total for 2010,” the report from GFMS said.

China’s Central Bank Recommends Gold For “Value Preservation”

China’s Central Bank Recommends Gold For “Value Preservation”

Mar. 26 2011 - 11:48 am

Believe it or not Ripley! The People’s Bank of China(PBOC) recommended yesterday that 1 billion Chinese consider buying gold as a hedge against inflation and to preserve values in a world where currencies can fall. The PBOC Financial Markets Review came out just as several major currencies were indeed declining in value against gold; the dollar,1%, the Swiss franc,2.5%, t he British pound, 2%, and the Japanese yen, 2%.

Wow! Be like the Fed telling you to buy oil stocks or crude oil futures due to expectation higher gasoline prices this summer.

So, add the PBOC to other secular influences on the price of gold; namely the conflict in Libya, the European sovereign debt crunch, the developing nuclear disaster in Japan and the extraordinary political unrest in Syria, Yemen, soon traveling to other Middle Eastern capitols. All unexpected by financial market analysts.

And whoever could conceive in their wildest fantasies that 12 states of the union- including New Hampshire, Vermont, Colorado, Indiana, South Carolina and Washington would propose to allow their citizens to use gold and silver coins as legal tender. Gold and silver coins to pay your rent, grocery bills and taxes.

And did you now that gold was selling quite well to ordinary citizens of India at 466 post offices on the subcontinent. Or that India has public companies that offer credit to people wishing to buy gold or silver. Loans to buy gold and silver.

No wonder gold equities were up 5.07% last week, though bullion only rise 0.75%.

Where to now for gold? Goldman Sachs says $1565 in 6 months and $1690 in 12 months. That would be a nifty 18% in 12 months. Though, Goldman warns a short-term lift could spark profit-taking. Hasn’t turned the big holders like Soros and Paulson and their brethren in hedge funds into liquidators yet. That will require Fed Chairman Bernanke to raise interest rates.

What does the history of money say about how you should handle yours today?

By: Kim Kiyosaki | 8/16/2010

Average Reader Rating:

Happiness was the focus of my last column, "The Happy Entrepreneur." Why? Because so many people say, "I'd rather be happy than rich." My response? Why choose only one when you can have both? So this month, I'm focusing on the basics of money. How did money evolve to what it is today, and how does that affect how we handle our own money in the future?

The History of Money
Winston Churchill once said, "The farther backward you can look, the farther forward you are likely to see." To see what lies in our financial future, let's take a look backward through history.

In the early ages, many things acted as money; people would trade or barter their personal possessions for things they wanted. Livestock and crops were commonly traded objects. Later, spices, cowry shells, beads and grains were offered as items for trade. When I was in grade school I learned the story of North American Indians exchanging "beads and trinkets" in my history classes. The beads were actually made of clamshells and were called wampum.

The Story of Greece
In about 650 B.C., silver coins first appeared in Lydia (now Turkey). Coins of bronze and gold were then made in Greece, Persia and the Roman Empire. Athens, Greece--the world's first democracy and the world's first free-market system--is where gold and silver first flourished. Classical Greece is considered one of the great civilizations of all time. What caused this powerful civilization to fall?

As Greece prospered under its new monetary system, it got involved in a war that turned out to be much longer (22 years) and much more costly than anticipated. The country was running out of money to fund the war, so Athenians came up with a brilliant idea. They discovered that if you took 1,000 gold and silver coins and mixed 50 percent copper into them you could then create--and spend--2,000 coins! Up until this point anything you bought was priced based upon the weight of gold and silver. Now the gold and silver coins were a mixture of gold, silver and copper. There were more coins in circulation, but the values of those coins was less. As more funds were needed to pay for the war, less and less gold and silver went into the coins and a higher percentage of copper was used. Within the next couple of years the war was lost, money had become practically worthless and Greece collapsed. Rome rose up as the new great power.

The Story of Rome
Rome's story is not so different. Romans also added other metals, such as copper, into their coins. They went a step further and made the coins smaller. They also minted the same coins but put a higher face value on them. The coins eventually became no more that tin-plated copper or bronze. Because the Romans were able to make so much money with no real value to the money itself, the market was flooded with these coins. So now more and more money was chasing the same number of products, which drove up the price of products and led to massive inflation.

Because the economy was so poor, the government jumped in and put the unemployed to work by hiring thousands of new soldiers and creating numerous public works projects. The cost of paying these soldiers, funding the new projects and doling out welfare to the existing unemployed was too much for Rome to bear. It simply could not print enough coins to sustain the system. The Roman Empire was now in hyperinflation. The empire fell. As history repeats itself, you will see that debasing--or devaluing--the currency to pay for war, public work projects and welfare is a pattern destined for ruin.

Currency vs. Money
I am using the word "money," which at times is not accurate. Money has a value in and of itself. A gold coin today can be exchanged for just over $1,200 US for goods and services anywhere in the world. Money is always currency in that it can be used to purchase other items that have value. Currency, however, is not always money because it does not have value by itself. For example, pull a $20 bill from your wallet. Do you think that piece of paper you are holding is worth 20 dollars? No, it's probably worth about five cents as paper you can write a shopping list on. As Greece and Rome started mixing other metal into their coins, the coins became a currency, an agreed medium of exchange, with little to no true value of their own.

Let's look at how our current currency came into being.

Paper Currency
Paper currency first appeared in China between the 9th and 15th centuries. It ended badly for China when the amount of currency the country printed skyrocketed, causing severe inflation, and China's paper currency vanished. (Is this sounding all too familiar?)

In 1775 the first dollars were printed in the U.S. They were called the Continentals. They were created to finance the Revolutionary War. With no tangible value of their own they, too, lost their value and became worthless.

The Gold Standard
In 1816 England made gold the standard of value. What that meant was that the country could only have (or print) as much paper currency as it had physical gold in the country's supplies. In other words, the paper currency was backed by gold and could be redeemed or cashed in for physical gold. In 1900 the U.S. went on the gold standard, and by 1914 most of the world was on the gold standard. The price of gold was fixed at USD 20.67 per ounce.

In the U.S. the gold standard was suspended several times--twice during World War I and in the 1930s to fight off deflation.

The Gold Reserve Act
In 1933 and 1934 President Franklin Delano Roosevelt played a couple of games with gold and currency. The government had many outstanding contracts and obligations to pay back after the war. In order to keep from going bankrupt, here's what Roosevelt put into action:

On August 28, 1933, Roosevelt signed an executive order making it illegal for American citizens to own gold. People were required to turn in their gold in exchange for Federal Reserve Notes (dollars). The result was more gold reserves into the vaults of the U.S. government.

Roosevelt then enacted The Gold Reserve Act. This act increased the set value of gold from $20.67 per ounce to $35 per ounce. The purpose of this move was to devalue the dollar. That accomplished two things:

1.It made U.S. goods less expensive to buy in foreign markets.
2.It made the conversion of gold into U.S. dollars more attractive to foreign buyers. Instead of getting $20.67 for one ounce of gold, foreign buyers could now trade their gold for USD 35.00 per ounce.
The U.S. government now had more gold in its supplies, which meant it could hold or print more money. Plus, with the new price of gold now at $35 per ounce, it could print 35 dollars for every ounce of gold vs. the previous 20 dollars. The money supply could now be expanded.

Bretton Woods
In 1944, toward the end of World War II, 730 delegates from 44 countries gathered at the Mount Washington Hotel in Bretton Woods, N.H., to determine how to renew the economies of countries and live in peace as trading partners. A monetary system was established whereby rules and regulations were put into place for how countries were to conduct themselves in monetary affairs.

The Bretton Woods Agreement was born. It was decided that all countries would peg, or fix, their currency to the U.S. dollar. This meant that each country's currency exchange rate was set against the dollar. It was also decided that the U.S. would make the dollar redeemable in gold at a rate of $35 per ounce.

Fateful Year: 1971
Everything changed in 1971 when President Richard Nixon took the U.S. off the gold standard, which meant that U.S. dollars could no longer be redeemed for gold. Nixon did this because U.S. gold reserves had diminished greatly, and the government feared there would be a run on the existing gold supply. To avoid this, Nixon simply declared that the U.S. dollar would no longer be converted to gold. At a snap of his fingers, the global monetary system was changed forever. The dollar was no longer backed by gold. It was backed by nothing. It became what is known as a fiat currency. Fiat currency is paper money that the government declares to be legal tender, or money. It has no intrinsic value of its own. When the U.S. dollar was backed by gold, you could demand gold for your dollars. No longer.

Since the Bretton Woods system had pegged all the world's currencies to gold through the U.S. dollar, all currencies on the planet suddenly became fiat currencies. These countries had no say in whether or not to keep the gold standard. The U.S. made a decision, and others adhered to it because of the Bretton Woods Agreement. All currencies also became free-floating, meaning their exchange rates were no longer at a fixed, or set, rate. Exchange rates fluctuated based upon the supply and demand of the marketplace.

Today all currencies throughout the world are fiat currency. They are backed only by the confidence of their citizens. The risk of fiat currency is that since it is not linked to any tangible reserves, the government can print as much of it as it wants. If, for example, the U.S. government continues to print at the rate it currently is, we face the possibility of great inflation, or hyperinflation. The dollar is only as good as the confidence people put in it. When you see the price of a loaf of bread go from $3 to $10 to $30, you'll quickly lose faith in the good old U.S. dollar, and our money could eventually become worthless.

Why is it important to look back at the history of money? It is said that history repeats itself. If that proves true, given your money today, I would ask two questions:

1.Is saving money, be it in a bank or in your underwear drawer, the smart thing to do? That dollar you are saving will buy you less in the future than it will today. Since 1971 the U.S. dollar has lost about 90 percent of its value. The 1971 dollar will now buy you 10 cents worth of goods. So, is saving those diminishing dollars really a secure strategy for your financial future?

2.If I don't save money, then what do I do? Wouldn't it be wise to put your money into things that historically go up in value as the dollar goes down in value? This is where you need to do your homework. For example, in the past 12 months, the price of gold has increased 35 percent and the price of silver has increased almost 40 percent. Ask yourself, "Are there other places I can keep my money (or my devaluing dollars) that make more sense in the long run for my financial security and well-being?"

Historically, the entire world has never been in the monetary situation it is in today. Individual countries have faced this, but never the world as a whole. The old money advice we grew up with does not work today. Pay attention to history, watch how things unfold today, and make smart decisions for your own financial peace of mind.

Assalamualaikum & Salam 1 Malaysia...

Mideast Unrest To Support Gold Next Week

18 March 2011, 2:16 p.m.
By Debbie Carlson
Of Kitco News

(Kitco News) - The unrest in the Mideast is flaring again, sharing the news spotlight with the tragedy in Japan, and that is expected to underpin gold prices going into next week.

Sterling J. Smith, commodity trading adviser and market analyst with Country Hedging, said after gold’s break earlier this week on the devastation in Japan, the market is ready to rebound.

Gold did not act as a safe-haven during the Japanese earthquake, tsunami and nuclear worries. Prices fell during the early part of the week and analysts attributed the break to investors selling gold to raise cash in order to shore up positions in other markets that were falling after the news in Japan. By Friday, gold rebounded with other markets.

“There’s a little bit more risk appetite coming back into the macro theater and gold is benefitting from that,” Smith said.

April gold futures prices on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange settled at $1,416.10 an ounce, down 0.4% on the week. May silver settled at $35.058 an ounce, down 2.44%.

“We’ve come back nicely. We went down to $1,380 and people are willing to buy breaks. It’s still a bull market, although a more mature bull market,” said Frank Lesh, futures analyst at FuturePath Trading.

The most supportive factor for gold has been the unrest in the Middle East, Lesh said.

Gold prices saw an uptick after the United Nations Security Council authorized Thursday a ”no-fly” zone in Libya that included “all necessary measures” to enforce the decision. By Friday morning U.S. time, Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi declared a cease-fire on its attacks on rebels seeking out oust him from more than four decades of power. Following the announcement, gold prices slipped from earlier levels.

Even though there is a cease-fire in Libya, violent protests have broken out in Yemen, where the government has declared a state of emergency, and Smith said there are plenty of other events for gold to help “fill the void.”

“With the tensions in the Middle East, it’s like playing ‘Whack-a-mole.’ (Tensions) settle in one region, only to pop up in another,” he said.

Currency volatility also underpinned gold, Lesh said. Central banks intervened jointly to stop the rise of the Japanese yen, the first time in 10 years, a move that was expected. Meanwhile the dollar has turned back down, supporting gold and other commodities. “People are still using gold as an international currency,” he said.

Over the course of the month, Smith expects gold to rise to the
$1,470 to $1,480 level.

Goldman Sachs said Friday in a research note that the pullback in gold prices following the devastation in Japan offers investors a chance to buy the yellow metal at lower prices. They said gold prices should continue to rally and they are maintaining their three-month target of $1,480.

Rich DeFalco, president, West Cooper Asset Management, also is looking for $1,480 in the next three months, calling himself “totally bullish right now.”

“Gold is still a good investment…. Why? Real interest rates in the U.S. are still negative,” he said.

For platinum group metals, though, Goldman said much depends on how Japan quickly can recover. PGM prices fell sharply this week because automotive manufacturing in Japan was curtailed. Goldman noted Japan is key to the global auto production. “Not only does Japan account for 12.6% of global automobile production, it also accounts for a large share of global industrial PGM consumption: 16.4% for platinum and 18.1% for palladium in 2010,” the bank said.

On the U.S. economic calendar for next week are new and existing home sales, durable goods and revision to fourth-quarter gross domestic product. Smith said there should be little here to affect metals.

While he is bullish on gold, silver is giving him some concern. “The (gold/silver) ratio is tightening to an area that I’m not comfortable with,” he said.

The ratio is around 40 and represents the number of ounces of silver it takes to buy an ounce of gold. When the ratio falls it’s because silver is outpacing gold.

He said silver’s price might be “overheating” and he cites action in copper for this view. Silver can be used as both a precious and industrial metal while copper is mostly used in fabrication. Recent price gains for both have reflected a rebound in global manufacturing, analysts said.

However, copper prices tumbled over the news from Japan and Smith pointed out the Chinese central bank said Friday lenders must raise reserve requirements. That will help slow down China’s high-growth economy and could curtail its commodity usage.

“We’re looking at a summer slowdown in copper use and it could go back down under $4 (a pound) to maybe the $3.70s. Heaviness in copper will weigh on silver,” he said.

He said he’s not necessarily looking for silver to correct, but said it might show more “sideways” action. Resistance for silver is seen between $35 to $35.50 and then around $36.

MEMANG mereka bukan Tuhan. Tapi mereka punya fakta kukuh pengandal hujahan.

Zarah-zarah intelektual saya mula berdiskusi, mengusulkan cadangan berisi.

Susunan harta intelektual bangsa yang saya atur rapi menghiasi almari kamar bacaan, satu demi satu diamati. Akhirnya saya temui sejilid catatan sendiri ketika mendengar kuliah Prof. Shufaad Norani.

Gigih saya menyelidik melalui Internet tentang kecairan wang.

Jantung saya bagaikan disambar petir apakala minda mentafsir informasi menzahir.

Selamba jawabnya, “Tiada komen. Awak tanya sendiri kepada menteri.”

Saya hubungi pejabat menteri berkenaan tapi rezeki tidak menyebelahi, dia keluar negara atas urusan peribadi menguruskan pendidikan anak. Ketika itu saya sedang menulis artikel mengenai polisi tenaga nuklear negara sebagai persediaan menghadapi kepupusan minyak.

Kakak juga memaklumkan dia pernah wawancara seorang jutawan emas, Datuk Syukor Hashim yang mengakui dia tidak menyimpan wang kertas (fiat money) dalam bank, tapi simpan duit emas.

Ujar Datuk Syukor, “fiat, perkataan Latin bermaksud ‘just to it.’ Kini setelah 1400 tahun berlalu, harga seekor ayam sekitar 1 dirham (wang perak seberat 2.975 gram) bersamaan RM20.00.”

Minda saya teringatkan sesuatu.

Helaian demi helaian buku koleksi pakar penganalisis kewangan itu terus saya hadam tanpa toleh kiri kanan meskipun perut mulai memberi isyarat meminta hak.

Maha Suci Allah menyerlahkan kebenaran nyata. Tatkala membaca Surah Yusuf, terkesima saya seketika.

Dan kenyataan Paul Volker, bekas pengerusi Federal Reserve Board, dipetik sebagai berkata, we have a 75% chance of a crisis within 5 years.

Kirana.

Melalui sistem khidmat pesanan ringkas, saya kirimkan sebuah gubahan aksara kepada Mukallaf dengan iringan doa agar Allah sudi membaiki kompas imannya yang terbabas.

Setia mengajar saya, jika mahu jadi pencinta budiman sandarkan pada kenangan dan bijaksana mengajar saya, jika mahu jadi hartawan dermawan sandarkan pada emas 999.9! – Utusan Malaysia Online

1 dinar - Muka hadapan

1 dinar - Muka belakang

Post kali ini saya tujukan khas buat new customer, En. Azhar.

TERIMA KASIH En Azhar kerana sudi berurusniaga dengan saya.

Segalanya bermula...

Handphone berbunyi.... pantas saya menjawab :

Saya : Hello...

Apa khabar pembaca semua?

= 250 gram – 150 gram (uruf)
= 100gram

Zakat yang wajib dibayar = 2.5% x (100 gram x harga semasa)
(andaian harga emas semasa RM157.00 / gram)
= 2.5% x (100 gram x RM157.00)
= RM392.00

Jawapan: Tidak wajib dizakatkan kecuali setelah ditebus semula. Kiraan haul bermula pada hari ditebus.

Ok then, selamat membuat pelaburan emas.
